THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE SETS
We asked our Compliance Director to delve into these brand-new colour-changing shades and explain how they actually work. So, it’s time for a quick science lesson! Thermochromic pigments are special types of pigments found in Thermo Gels. These pigments react to temperature changes by altering their molecular structure, resulting in colour changes.
HERE’S HOW TO SWITCH UP YOUR SHADE
- When cold, the molecular structure becomes clear, allowing the natural colour of the gel to shine through.
- When introduced to heat, the molecules become white, changing the colour of the gel completely. This effect is utilised to create a continually changing ombré effect in these gel colours.
- As the temperature of the environment or the body changes, the gel responds dynamically, they can also be influenced by activities such as washing your hands with warm or cold water.

HOW TO APPLY
Thermo gels should be applied in the same way as our other Gels — applying in two even coats and curing for 60 seconds in between. True to their name, however, they will go on as their original colour but once cured, will transform to their alternate colour due to the increase in temperature. Because of this, they can look ‘patchy’ but do not fear. Continue with the top coat application and once fully cured, simply run under cold water to activate them fully.
